Detectability
The ability to discover or determine the existence, presence, or fact of a hazard.
Details
Detectability is used in some risk assessment tools to estimate risk and design controls, but it does not stand in for severity or probability. Inspections may cite low detectability scored high without justification, or a detection control treated as though it were a preventive control. Check the risk assessment criteria, performance data for the detection method, alarm and inspection trends, and review of control effectiveness.
